Countries of the Adriatic Sea

The Adriatic Sea is home to some of Europe's most picturesque countries. For anyone who loves a mixture of sea views, historic architecture, Mediterranean cuisine and sunshine then you are spoiled for choice. Italy, Montenegro, Slovenia and Croatia all share part of the Adriatic coastline. Best of all, These countries are only within a 2-3 hour flight time from the UK.

Croatia

Croatia is the best place to go to get the most out of the Adriatic sea, the views speak for themselves. Home to the more recent Netflix series "Game of Thrones" the historic city of Dubrovnik has had a boom in tourists over recent years which the locals have been appreciative of. For GOT fans, places like Dubrovnik offer guided tours showing filming locations and can include a boat trip to Lokrum Island. Souvenir shops are aplenty in the Old Town and a common sight to see are cats! It is a cat lovers dream! Like many other areas of Croatia, Dubrovnik offers incredible architecture, art galleries and museums including one in the old town giving the history of the city and a dedicated area to the soldiers lost in The Croatian War of Independence between 1991 and 1995. Overall, Croatia is a MUST on the holiday list, amazing food, glorious weather and a suitable environment for families and couples.

Slovenia

One place that isn't typical and not as popular as its neighbours is Slovenia, and i have no idea why it is so overlooked! Slovenia shares just a small portion of the Adriatic see with the charming town of Piran sitting on its coast. For sun seekers this is the place to be but, if you wanted to change things up a bit you won't have to go far, after all, there isn't many places you can sunbathe on the beach one day and go skiing the next! Slovenia offers not only coastal views with sunshine but incredible mountains as a backdrop. So why not make a trip with the kids to one of Slovenia's very own alpine resorts at Kranjska Gora, only 2 hours away from the sunny coat of Piran! Again, another fabulous European country with an offload of offerings to suit all, why not consider this fabulous country as place to make memories in a unique way.

Italy

How could I not include Italy on this Adriatic adventure. Italy shares its east coast with the Adriatic consisting of Venice, San Marino and Bari to name a few. For a truly relaxing historic holiday filled with beaches, wine, architecture and river boats then this country is for you. The famous boot(as it looks on the map)is a popular choice amongst tourists and especially art lovers with the vast array of galleries and museums. Due to the extent of possible activities and things to see to suit all family members, holiday makers want to see and do everything and makes it a popular choice to travel around via train or rented car but, for those just seeking a relaxing time to enjoy the amazing food in a quaint setting, there are plenty of locations to choose from to suit. Weddings, honeymoons, anniversaries.....so many occasions are celebrated in Italy for a reason, it's just the perfect setting.
